So I am a Database geek; tables, data, and relationships. I recently finished a sub project for my boss, adding a book inventory within the same database. It is amazing what you can do with data. I am used to writing code from the ground up and then mending out the bumps. FileMaker 9 is a database alternate to Microsoft Access, which I am MOS certified in, FileMaker 9 is made up differently but works the same jiffs. I am not a FileMaker Guru but I am a Geek that can figure out many things out. This Project was just off an idea, people at my job whine about not having certain data for grant writing, co-workers running and hunting for the hard copies. You can see the stress polluting the airways. So I have designed and programmed a registration, Daily Sign-In log, and a book inventory system. The first phase was unworking for a user, then added color and nice-to-see interface, used many scripts and layouts to automate some things, then scripted all the loose ends so user can not mess up…..so now we have a user-friendly database with a nice Interface. so the next time someone need a report……bingo.. I got you an automated report. it took me less than 5 minutes to send the report to upper-management. Presto…. you got a happy employee and an employer. Guys have a great day

You are asking yourself, how can a Geek love another Geek? It seem though maybe its like a robot trying to cry. But either way sooner or later, something will happen, just like when Humans will never be able to reach to the moon, it did happen! Just Like I was saying that Geeks loves other Geeks. How and Why? Well you for beginners, Geeks are not just Geeks, there is a sub-genre of Geeks – to name a few – Band Geeks, Pyro Geeks, Car Geeks, Food Geeks, Math Geeks, etc… but the types of Geeks I am trying to reach is Net Geeks or Computer Software Geeks. and all in between….and of course you don’t need to be a geek for my blog….So in my title “Geek Love: Using Open Source Software”. Lets sorts things out:

What is Love?

Taken from Urban Dictionary ”

Love can make you do anything and sacrifice for what will be better in the end. Love is intense, and passionate. Everything seems brighter, happier and more wonderful when you’re in love. If you find it, don’t let it go. One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life:

That word is love. ”

What is a Geek?

Taken from Urban Dictionary ”

The term “geek” originally referred to the carnival performers whose act consisted of biting the heads off chickens and eating glass. Over time it came to be applied to anyone who got paid to do work considered odd or bizarre by mainstream society. The term now enjoys a special status within the technical community, particularly among particularly knowledgable computer programmers. To identify oneself as a “geek” indicates a recognition that most people still consider programming computers to be a bizarre act, along with a certain fierce satisfaction in being very good at their inglorious profession.

That most software geeks now easily earn twice as much as the average laborer just sweetens their defiant embrace of the term.

Note: Unlike the word “nerd,” which is always pejorative, “geek” often carries a positive connotation when used by one of the group. The use of the term by outsiders is considered insulting.

“If you really need the right answer, check with Bob; he’s our resident alpha geek.”

What is open Source?

Taken from Urban Dictionary ”

1. A group of software whose source code is available to the general public for the purpose of improvement, modification, etc.
2. Any software released under the GPL, LGPL, or other open source licenses.
3. The stuff that makes Bill Gates’ life sad.

Linux, Apache, MySQL, and plenty else is open source – and it’s all good stuff.”

Thought Process

So, Love? Geek? and Open Source? These people that create this type of software is truely in love with their programming, they share it and they make it because they love you! So next time you find a program that “open Source” Find their website and drop some cents in there paypal, why? cause your a geek too! and need to return the favor!

Some Resources to think about

Ubuntu – Alternate OS

Gimp – Photo Editor

Beware of the trap of being addicted to social feedings.

You can’t have enough information of other people’s lives.

I can’t believe I can say I read way to much on people daily lives. twitter and rss feeds are addictive. Here I said it! the 12 step program, Do you really thing I was going to give you guys a 12 step program for IT addicts? Sure I am not. I belong to about 13 forums and I read about 17 blogs daily. It is like a inlet for me because sometimes I have an introverted part of me, just like I have an outrovertiness about myself. Do you know what I am trying to say? I mean that I don’t talk to people sometimes, and I like that. Don’t get me wrong but I do like talking to people about a lot of things. Why do I read a blog and read a forum post? Well, persay maybe its a way for me to have a conversion with a person without the body language or the fear of rejection of my disability. When I read blogs I know that that person via they way they type or what the topic was. So, I really talk with the person daily, I at least comment on thier blog post, is that enough? A forum is a little different, there is multiple people talking about someone’s thought or feeling about a situation! What do you guys think about types of ways to communicate, we all know about email, but what other things, like Facebook, myspace, or any bother SN (Social networks). What do you guy think about a universal Network? like Create a bridge of all SN’s into one pot?

Big Johnny-B-Goode: MrGeeK, when do we stop our Education Progress?
MrGeeK : Well Big John, We don’t stop learning, you just need to B-Goode!

Hear me out fellow geek and geeknettes:

Do you ever get the feeling of being old, not the sense of age but the learning process in Technical advances. Seems in my world that when I decide to write a note to my co-worker or write a real genuine thank you letter, I feel like the web has left me, I am hopping on one foot try to cross a lava land hoping that I will reach to the end of the race at least in last place. I think it is my attitude really. Knowledge is a powerful thing, to much will land you in jail and not enough will land you in politics. So Balance your knowhow.

What are saying buddy, you are all over the page. I am sure of that. The truth is that you are never too old to learn, if only if your mindset isn’t. I am just recapping my feelings of my week at work. Stressed? Yes. Ready for the next week? Yes. Why? Because natural ability to related your senses through your feelings and outputting them into functional emotions is very awesome!

WHAT!

Well, I had a client that is 73 years of age. He is one of my Microsoft Office class students. he has this vast positive attitude. He started out not able to started the PC period! I introduce him with the idea, you tell the computer what to do to achieve your goal, he love that! Then Typing Skills, Basic Computer Skills, and Micro$oft Office. To my surprise, He learned how to setup a free email account! Without my assistance! and behold theres more, HTML, thats right. HTML He had ask me! “Ya-Know how them computers have the internet, well how-ya go about making them googles papers” I was all most in a orgy of laughter when he said that! so I proceeded teaching the core of html in notepad, yah rah for notepad.exe!!!!!!! He is now learning some basic css and id/name/class references.

This type of wave of emotion is just fine and dandy. I love to Instruct, Lead, and help my clients to achieve there goals, whatever they choose, well almost all

Have a great weekend Bloggers and readers
