Procrastination, Fear of Doing Things Well?
February 13, 2009
How many time will you hear someone say “Oh I do that later”. My theory is people procrastinate because they are scared to doing their task well. I argue with myself. “You need to clean this up”. I am like “The heck with it right now”. “I’ll do it later”. I ponder about it alot. is it because we just don’t want to do it? Maybe Lazy? I think we just think its something we don’t want to do. But in deep, I think we fear of self rejection. “That bed sheet is not neat enough” “Dishes can’t have any stains on them”. BUT the moment we realize that we can excel in something those Task can become easy and worry free. The reason it makes sense to me is because my past experience in college. The Fear of not achieving little by little? Why bother so I revert to.. “I’ll do that asignment later” I know i can do that math assignment but maybe I won’t get that “showing your work” thing. So Finding something that works. Now, I know that I can excel in school so I don’t wait to last moment to do something. Same thing with anything…. learn your boundaries….but do you know them? I love BillGX Blog it has inspired me write this post. Under Comments in one of posts. it says:
People are often afraid to try something new because they are afraid to fail. This week I saw a fascinating video by Randy Nelson who works at Pixar and he talks a bit about failure when he says this:
“The core skill of innovators is error recovery, not error avoidance.”
How often as educators do we train our students not to make mistakes? Human beings learn best by making mistakes and figuring out ways of doing it better next time. Somehow we often lose sight of this truth.
So Learn to not fear of failing can open a door to getting thing done… and stress free. I am glad I am back in trying the bloging thing… My Procrastination is my blog. I shall not fear to fail. failing is good, unless its the motor in your boat!
